Note. These methods will definitely work with older firmware (not uefi), Windows boot files are definitely intact, and if the Windows boot partition is probably healthy. In other cases, you will need to do a Windows installation or take care of the drive as above. Boot recovery

Using The Command Line
1. Boot from a live CD (or USB) of any latest version of Ubuntu and select “Try Ubuntu” to access the live desktop
2.Just check if a normal Windows boot partition has a “Boot” flag. For XP and Vista, this is, as usual, the main partition C:. A few windows usually (but not always) have a 100-200 MB boot partition labeled “SYSTEM”. There are also more luxurious settings where versions of two related Windows have been installed on an old hard drive, or where the dominant Windows partition is logically different. In these cases, one primary partition is created, currently containing the Windows boot files, which should be marked as active and someone should understand what this guide is about. Once you’ve done that, finish opening Gparted and see if “bootable” is listed in the banner column for that section. Otherwise go to section and go to section menu -> manage flags, check “boot” checkbox, then close the windowand close Gparted.
3. The two workarounds below assume that the boot disk is literally /dev/sda in Ubuntu. This can almost always be the case, but in unusual BIOS settings where there are literally multiple hard drives, all boot drives can be above /dev/sda. In such cases, you will need to adjust the order correctly.
If an internet connection is available, open a good terminal and run the following commands: apt-get
sudo install lilo
sudo lilo -M /dev/sda mbr
When not connected to the Internet: The latest Ubuntu settings contain a 440-byte registry /usr/lib/syslinux/mbr.bin, which you just need to split at the beginning of the mbr using this command from the terminal. WARNING! Be very careful with this command, also check for typos before executing it.
sudo dd if=/usr/lib/syslinux/mbr.bin of=/dev/sda
4. Now reboot, remove the Ubuntu CD and you should be able to boot directly into Windows.
